A new role for Michael Douglas, he gets to be quirky in this movie, and I don't think I can think of a movie where he's this quirky. "King of California" tells the story about an estranged father who just left the mental house and moves back home with his daughter.

There he tells her while as a patient he did some discovering in books and other research that there is buried Spanish gold treasure somewhere out in the suburbs. And so the odd adventure begins for this weird duo, leading them to the x-marks the spot location, Costco.

The movie at times seems a little unbelieveable at times, and the ending comes off as a little rehash drama, but all in all the movie is very engaging and feels like an indie like "National Treasure", and that's what I liked about it.

Plus the performances by both Michael Douglas & Evan Rachel Wood were magnificent.
