Review of King Kong Escapes (1967) by Jacob T — 17 Jan 2016
It's not Shakespeare, but it is a decent offering of kaiju hijinks. The best thing going for this movie is the meta weirdness of its villain Doctor Hu. Eisei Amamoto chews the scenery delightfully. Then add onto that the fact that he's dubbed by Paul Frees using his Burgomeister Meisterburger voice. And he actually came into this movie from a King Kong cartoon show.
On the flip side, there are some moments where they are clearly using miniatures instead of guys in rubber suits and they really don't come off well, even by kaiju movie standards.
