No film historian or film buff can deny that King Kong, the 1933 monster creature classic that redefined visual effects and their astounding affect on an any given audience. Kong also took the nostalgic view on exotic animals and used it as a visual and emotional anchor for the audience. This is why Kong still stands.
Kong is, essentially the contemporary adventure version of Beauty and the Beast. Fay Wray stars as the 'damsel in distress' actress who goes to Skull Island, a mystical and mysterious island to film the best action adventure film of all time. With her is an eccentric camera man Carl Denham and his friend Jack Driscol, who falls in love with her. When Kong takes interest in Wray, Driscol goes through the violent jungles to find her.
King Kong stands today as a massive achievement in visual effects and visual storytelling on a grand scale.
