Review of King Kong (1933) by Blackity B — 01 Sep 2010
Certainly a great monster/adventure movie. Despite its age, I think it captures the magnitude and amazement of Kong even more than the Peter Jackson version. The only thing I thought was weak was the final act, which was way too fast.
Even though they really tried to uphold Kong's image as a monster, I think it's hard not to feel a little bit sorry for him at the end. He was a king who was dragged out his forest and killed at mankind's hands.
The ending line, though witty, was almost obnoxiously arrogant. It wasn't "beauty" that killed the beast. It was mankind's greed and selfishness.
