Review of King Kong (1933) by Adrian B — 06 Jul 2011
Idiotic plotline, hilarious special effects, scenery chewing acting, and yet this film is the foundation of monster and thriller films. It is quite dated, but it is an original film. A film crew, which includes Robert Armstrong, want to head to an island in the Indian Ocean that contains a giant ape, obviously King Kong.
A girl, Fay Wray, is taken off the street to be part of their film (what a way to select an actress!). Of course, when they go there, nothing goes right. Laughs a plenty within this film, which includes the endless screaming, the dialogue, and also the apparently grounbreaking special effects.
In addition to the giant ape, it seems that several dinosaurs survived the 67 million years of extinction and went nuts, which lead to their deaths (one as a result of the humans). You would think scientists should be called to investigate these alarming discoveries, but no, guns should be put to the Stegasaurus (which no one was able to identify!), or killed by the Giant Ape.
Though the film is silly, it is worth the watch on an inherit level, since it inspired many films into the feature, even more related to King Kong.
