Review of King Arthur: Legend of the Sword (2017) by Gavin P — 01 Sep 2017
Still not an amazing take on the myth of King Arthur & Excalibur - why anyone bothers, since 'Monty Python & The Holy Grail' is perfection , is a good question - but it's not horrible, either.
Probably slightly better than Clive Owen's 'King Arthur' & Sean Connery's 'First Knight'. This folm wastes no time, getting straight into a battle, with the King (Bana) fighting the mage king and being betrayed by his brother, Vortigern (Law).
Arthur (Hunnam) therefore grows up on the streets of London & learns to fight there, and only later fulfills his destiny. Since it's Guy Ritchie, there's some out-of-place sped-up battle scenes and plenty of explosions.
Some odd CGI too - snakes, elephants, etc. and it's a mix of 'Game of Thrones' (Littlefinger & Roose Bolton) and a coming-of-age tale. Still has quite a few slow bits and you never really get to know/care for the characters too much.
Still, enough to like throughout, just not excellent.
