Review of Kind Hearts and Coronets (1949) by Joshua T — 31 Oct 2009
Alec Guinness playing 8 roles (albeit each minor) attracted me to this film. But Dennis Price was equally impressive.
The premise is somewhat Shakespearean (a disinherited Duke, embittered by the premature death of his Mother, seeks to off the 8 family members -all Alec Guinness- who stand in the way of his Dukedom). The movie is billed as a comedy, and I guess it is in the light-hearted portrayal of serial murder, but the humor is very dry and dark.
