Proper Perspective: An smaller horror flick that is not quite as scary as traditional slasher, but has a human element to it that separates it from a lot of other Indie horror movies that are all style (kills) and no substance. Let's talk about Killing Ground...

Official Synopsis: A couples camping trip turns into a frightening ordeal when they stumble across the scene of a horrific crime.

Plot: A non-linear story that follows a family, a couple, and two miscreants of a small town in Australia that leads to gruesome revelations and the struggle to survive.

Take: Another movie I was able to see at the Phoenix Film Festival and another one that had some really strong elements as well as its flaws. This is a fine movie overall from the acting and premise, but the real star of the movie was the story-telling device.

The movie told three stories that connected, but not in a linear fashion. We saw one story in real time with the other stories being told from the past to the present as they setup to eventually collide with each other. As the stories unfolded you could see the puzzle pieces forming together, this story-telling device was not meant to deceive the audience, but to give you a different take on how each character got to where they were in the end.

Each character reacted in a "human manner" with what they experienced. This was not a case of classic Hollywood going over the top and making every character a hearo or redeemable.

There are some unsettling scenes and the movie will make you uncomfortable in spots, so if that is not for you then take it or leave it. If you are one to be sensitive towards rape or violence against children (not together) then sit this one out. The movie is not shy with what these characters would do in the situation that is presented to them, and that means there are some uncomfortable scenes to watch.

Recommendation: When this hits VOD check it out. Killing Ground does not overstay its welcome at 89 minutes long and is something worth watching, at least once...

This might be an origin story for an Australian super hero. That baby was made out of Teflon...
