Yeah yeah yeah, same old crap, so why did I rate it higher than "Life as We Know it"? Well, this movie has some very unconventional surprises. The first 40 minutes is agonizingly predictable and rushed. Within 20 minutes our protagonists have met, fallen in love, moved in together AND 3 years have passed. Doesn't feel at all natural or believable, but we go with it anyway because that's all the audience wants to see: 2 attractive people falling in love.

All that bull shit aside, the movie suddenly takes a fairly interesting turn: there's action, violence, blood and even a number of people getting killed. It was a bit of fresh air to see someone grab the romantic comedy by the balls and give them a bit of a twist. The deaths are, for the most part, graphic and clever; you'd almost think Adam Green was possibly a writing consultant here.

Then, out of nowhere, we've reached the climax, but it doesn't at all feel like the climax; more like another plot point. Then, kapoof! The movie is over. There's also a lame "twist" thrown in there too that returns the film back to it's lame romantic comedy roots.

Catherine O'Hara gives the most bearable performance; as the ever intoxicated, laid back mother. Her few lines and actions provide some of the only REAL comedy in the whole film. All in all, I'd recommend it to your casual rom-com viewer, just for the few moments of NEARLY jaw dropping coolness that occurs half way through.
