Review of Killer Party (1986) by Michael W — 15 Oct 2014
This sucked. Why does it suck? Well, we get a couple false starts at the beginning with teenagers watching a drive-in movie and then those said teenagers end up actually being part of a music video. I understand that last sentence may not make too much sense, but let me put it this way: Thank God the movie had nothing to do with these scenes because they were especially awful, even compared to the rest of the lackluster movie.
The first hour of this mess is more of an Animal House ripoff. Well, a sad Animal House ripoff. It isn't funny and nothing really happens. It's barely worth talking about and I found my mind shutting off while watching it.
The last half hour gets better, albeit still a schlocky, cheesy mess. This is where the party is actually happening and people get killed off left and right (by a terrible looking Big Daddy nonetheless). In the end, it turns out the killer was the girl who had reservations about going to the house because she is possessed. Then she is killed and the girl who kills her gets possessed. It's dumb. Don't be angry at me for spoiling any of this because not only is this movie not worth watching, but it's barely available. I have a bootleg copy (terrible VHS quality btw) and I don't think this has been released on DVD or blu-ray in the US. Maybe it's just out of print. I don't know, but I can understand there shouldn't be much of a demand for it.
I wish I could like it in the bad movie kind of way, but it's just dreadfully boring and unfunny (when it's trying to be funny). That's the worst. It doesn't have the campy charm of slasher movies like House on Sorority Row, and it's not even really a slasher movie. That's what I think is the worst part. It wasn't even a slasher movie until towards the end.
The best I can say is that it wasn't as bad as that piece of crap Blood Sisters that I watched a couple weeks ago. So congratulations Killer Party on being better than Blood Sisters.
