Review of Killer Klowns from Outer Space (1988) by Jason J — 02 Aug 2011
Silly, sometimes funny B-movie that turns out better than most of this genre because of some inventive sequences with the Klowns, interesting sets and the lack of gore. It's definitely not Oscar material, but the makers have fun with their clowns doing silly stunts and then zapping their human audiences into cotton candy cocoons where eventually their innards are sipped thru straws to energize them for their trip home.
They land on Earth in a big-top shaped spaceship and start killing humans for food. As is usual in these types of movies there is a small group that see what's actually happening and then a larger group who laugh at them silly until they encounter the evil ones and die.
Most of the movie is done very tongue-in-cheek which is when it's at it's best, but then the last 1/2 hour we watch the filmmakers quickly try to wrap up everything and all of a sudden the movie loses it's humour and it almost seems like their racing for it to finish.
In the end it was only borderline worthwhile with some uniquely funny moments but boring down the stretch.
