Review of Killer Joe (2012) by Jose M — 22 Aug 2013
Okay, I remember telling you about the stupidity people do in movies and how annoying it is. Well, the next film luckily and appropriately uses stupidity. When a 22 year old drug dealer Chris owes money to the mafia, he plots a sinister idea his father Ansel without thinking it through.
Chris, Ansel, a man too stupid to even think, and his bitchy and nagging second wife agree to have Ansel's first wife murdered, so they can collect an insurance policy. Chris then contacts Killer Joe Cooper (Matthew McConaughey).
Killer Joe is a detective and a hit man who only agrees to do the job when he becomes interest in a Chris's sister Dottie (Juno Temple). Dottie is not only aboard with her mom being killed, but is used as collateral for Joe.
How will this work out? Not good by any means, and that is why I love about Killer Joe. Killer Joe pushes boundaries that go overboard. None of the character here thinks for a moment except Dottie who you feel bad about.
One stupid decision is made after another, but that is who these characters are. You become squeamish at the situation and even disgusted. The violence here is brutal and realistic, so just in case chunks of blood are not your thing.
Killer Joe was a stage play and is now an NC-17 (the second one in a year) film, so viewers have been worn.
