Review of Kill the Irishman (2011) by Danny C — 23 Jun 2011
Okay, I'll admit it. I'm biased on this one. Kill the Irishman is the story of Cleveland based mobster Danny Green and his rise to the top of the criminal ladder. I'm a product of the great city of Cleveland and I've spent my entire life here. So it gives me great dignity and pride to finally have the spotlight on our great city for a change instead of the normal NYC or L.A, even if it's for a small two hour low budget mob film.
All that aside, Kill the Irishman is a fantastic picture. I'm reading this jabroni's review to the right of what I'm writing and he says; "No it's not Goodfellas, no it's not The Godfather..." Well duh you jackass, I don't think that's what they were going for. It's the Irishman, a proud Irish American Clevelander who over powered unions, strong armed New York City mob bosses and was really the man the mafia couldn't kill.
The Irishman is damn near perfect from top to bottom. If you watch the movie with the mindset it'll be anything like the mob films you've grown to love, you'll be disappointed. But that's the beauty of it. It's so different from them all. Different characters, different story (this one happens to be true), and for me, most importantly, it's a different city.
100% From me.
