Review of Kill List (2011) by Alan W — 06 Sep 2011
Great critical reviews equal great expectations and this one slightly disappoints. Not that it isn't an effective psychological thriller, which it certainly is but I was expecting more to the writing than the (rather clever) switcherroo between domestic drama to horror/violence/torture-porn.
This film simply lives in the shadows of too many great British horror films such as The Descent and The Wicker Man (which had never been a favourite of mine I confess) to name but two, that, in the end, I felt a tad, erm, cheated.
As an adequate and refreshing remake, 3.5 stars. On its own terms and based on my enjoyment, 2.5 stars. This is therefore an average grade.
