Review of Kill List (2011) by Aidan H — 05 Feb 2012
To say that writer/director Wheatley likes to switch lanes mid-plot is putting it mildly as KL starts out as a lively kitchen sink drama about army vet guns-for hire before swerving wildly into a more chilling and horrific second half.
Maskell and Smiley enact their rough-edged bromance to perfection while Gal's wife, Shel, is portrayed as much more than the nagging wifey by the indomitable MyAnna Burning. The action when it kicks in is as brutal and unflinching as anything I've seen recently and all the more unnerving when balanced alongside the believable domestic scenes.
A welcome change of style for the Brit UK horror genre, Wheatley is definitely a director to keep your eye on. Highly recommended.
