A pretty good attempt at making something intereting...
This film is all about mood and whilst it can't deliver on the genuinely intriguing scenario that is set up, for a UK flick, this is not bad at all. The issues that I have with the film are in the latter third where it attempts to start wrapping up the story and it feels a little rushed and convenient. When you reach the end and its 'shocking' denouncement, I didn't really feel it.
The cast are pretty good for the most part, with some characters coming off better than others. The standout for me was the always excellent Michael Smiley who seems to have come a long way from his stand up comedian days. He was really good here, underplaying his role and trying to keep his partner in check.
Whilst the makers couldn't quite deliver the goods, the atmosphere that they have created in seemingly normal scenarios is really admirable and I look forward to seeing what they come up with next....
