Review of Kill List (2011) by Harry A — 12 Nov 2012
A serious split personality movie, starting out as a shouty domestic drama, then a lads road trip, then an ultra-violent, grim hitman film and ending in a bit of a freakout with a pagan cult and a very unpleasant stabbing.
In my opinion everything apart from the finale worked well - very unpleasant of course, but that's a direct testament to the filmmaking. The finale however came too far out of left-field and felt like aloopy shock for the sake of it, rather than something that gained suspense through forebodings or hints within the plot.
Such deliberately provocative aspects of the film just gave the impression of a small budget Brit film trying consciously to become a cult hit, when cult hits should just happen with audience word of mouth momentum.
