Review of Kill Bill: Vol. 1 (2003) by The Critic ( — 06 Oct 2013
The influences of writer/director Quentin Tarantino are clear cut in this excessively violent revenge yarn, as he merges his love of Eastern cinema and the Golden Age of Hollywood's exploitation genré. Divided into five nonlinear chapters, 'Kill Bill' is a visual feast with a fine mix of bloodshed and humour, featuring solid performances from Uma Thurman as our avenging protagonist and a remarkable Lucy Liu, with Vivica A. Fox and Daryl Hannah making the most of their limited screen time.
There's lots of fun to be had here and, as expected, leaves us begging for 'Vol. 2'.
