Review of Kikujiro (1999) by Shail G — 25 Oct 2007
Kitano goofs off with a kid in this quirky and completely implausible road movie, Kikujiro. The film feels aimless and somewhat protracted, and its emotional power is pretty much single-handedly driven by Joe Hisaishi's gorgeous score.
With its nearly two-hour running length, Kitano's signature stillness becomes rather tiresome, but the wacky character he essays here is often genuinely funny and still intensely likable.
