Review of Kika (1993) by Blake M — 21 Oct 2007
It's amazing that someone whose work idolizes the strength and majesty of his female characters can write such blatantly antifeminist material from time to time, yet the grotesquely comical rape scene should not be considered an endorsement of such behaviour.
Not a morally inspired film, just a bizarre black dramedy from almodovar. Kika's persona is promiscuous but adorable in her own outrageously childish way, and bibi andersen's cameo is lovely, although I don't know how they intended to pass her off as Mexican.
Abril and her horrendously over-the-top wardrobe are a must-see, assuming one has a strong stomach.
