Review of Kidulthood (2006) by Helen O — 15 Oct 2008
Kidulthood is a powerful, modern portrayl of a day in the life of many different teenagers growing up in West London. Not only do we get to see the struggle of gangs but this movie also address such subjects as teen pregnancy, bullying, underage drinking and drug taking, suicide, prejudice & many violence related subjects. Words can not describe how original and creative this movie is but it is easy to guarentee that this is a must see movie. Every actor not only plays they're individual characters extremely well but it is obvious that they have been their character at some point in their life which brings something magical and natural to the screen. The storyline is extremely well written and Noel Clarke, who as well as writing this masterpiece plays the evil character of Sam, deserves a large amount of praise. Just imagine Grange Hill meets Mean Streets.
All in all this is not a movie you would take your mother to see BUT this does not stop it from being every thing that is needed in a modern day Drama. I can confidently say that this film not only gets a guarenteed position in my "Top 10 Films" list. It also gets a place in my "Why didn't this receive an Oscar list". Enjoy.
