Review of Kidulthood (2006) by Craig H — 26 Jul 2011
Plays like a nightmarish Ferris Bueller's Day Off, with the school a tough London comprehensive, the kids bully-plagued and reckless, and the day off granted following a suicide, with more hoodies, drugs and blades than you could shake a rolled-up Daily Mail at.
But there's humanity to the characters, they're a product of their world and there's enough pace, banter and comic relief to stop it becoming overly depressing. A solid, lively, compelling but often harrowing film.
