Review of Kidulthood (2006) by Daniel M — 28 Apr 2010
Glorifying violence ?, In no way does this film glorify violence. The film set out to show you how a tiny event can lead to huge consequences in the "ghetto" areas of London, and it accomplished this with realism and style.
I'm from an area exactly like the ones these characers are from, and it's good to see an accurate depiction of life in these estates. Aml Ameen puts in a brilliant performance as the leading role and Adam Deacon provides some welcome comic moments.
Overall, I think the does exactly what it set out to do and deserves to be held in high regard with its demographic. I dont mean this as offence, but the fact that alot of 40+ middle class critics don't like the film doesnt surprise me because they cannot relate to it, or any of the characters.
