Review of Kids (2011) by Tamatai N — 04 Aug 2010
I've been avoiding this film for some time now, adament that I probably wasn't going to enjoy it. However, after seeing Harmony Korine's brilliant Gummo, I decided I may as well bite the bullet and give this film a shot.
I can see why a lot of people really despise it, but I personally found it to be a brutally honest and unflinching slice-of-life glimpse into a world that people rarely get to see from the inside, and a massive kick in the balls concerning the state of youth culture that holds true even fifteen years after the film's release.
Love it or hate it, Kids will always be one of those pieces of cinema that will forever be a landmark in independent film, whether prudish critics will admit it or not.
