Review of Kids (2011) by Alec N — 07 Dec 2013
It's uncomfortable, raw, harsh, and at times disgusting but there should be no doubt whatsoever in this masterpiece's value in cinema artistically, narratively or otherwise. Serving as a film of it's time Larry Clark's immensely voyeuristic and provocative cinematography married with Harmony Korine's profoundly explicit writing creates a film that ruthlessly captures the lack of any adult's encouragement, education, parenting and support within urban Western youth culture.
In separating kids and adults and telling this story strictly revolving around the former, a certain type of chaos ensues that needs to be seen, discussed, and reflected upon.
