Review of Kidnap (2017) by Trent L — 03 Aug 2017

I just watched the film. It's not good, but it had a lot of good ideas. The story fell flat and it didn't take ad. The story needed a stronger beginning and more emotion. The audience needed to see her fight for custody of the child. If we saw her fighting for custody of her child and seeing her finally get the opportunity to hang out with her child, it would've made the story much stronger. The story felt rushed. It was disappointing because of the good ideas surrounding the story. It felt like the screenwriter was afraid to give the movie a darker plot. Watching her chasing a car for 40 minutes isn't entertaining at all. It gets annoying fast.

They tried to force the audience to be sad by showing pictures of her child for the first seven minutes of the film. That time should've been focused on something else. Overall the story was just too weak. They had ideas for a great and maybe Oscar-worthy film. They just didn't execute it with the story. The acting, cinematography, editing was all great. The directing was decent. It felt like the director didn't have a real theme or mood while directing this film. It's all over the place in the mood, tone and what the hell is the theme for the movie. It felt like it had multiple themes which aren't good for a film. The movie is also very predictable. From the first ten minutes of the movie, you could easily predict what will happen next. The last act for this film had a great idea, but, just like the rest of the film, it fell flat because of the poorly written story and direction.

Halle Berry is a kickass actress. She did outstanding in this film. She's Michael Jordan in this film. She's an incredible actress, but her acting couldn't save this film.

The movie also lacks mystery and suspense because of the predictable story. There weren't any moments that were suspenseful. Action films are awesome but, this one just seems like it wanted to be everything.

Overall, the movie is poorly written and the direction could've been much better with they took a darker, more emotional approach with the story and direction.

Even though this movie isn't good, the fast-paced action might be enough to draw a little audience in.
