Review of Kicks (2016) by Tor M — 01 Sep 2017
A 15 year old man is dreaming of getting som Air Jordans on his feet. He's poor, short, not the coolest in the gang and he feels a bit left out since most people have something, but he got nothing. Cool shoes should fix it, so when he manage to get some he is suddenly the coolest cat in the hood. Some hoodlums manage to steal his kicks, so he's left with nothing again, until he decides to get them back.
OK story, that's never really about shoes - that's the best part here. It's filled with ghetto talk and hard fellas for those who like that stuff, but for me it was a bit overdone. Scenes with house parties, weed, drugs, guns and violence is taking up a lot of space here, and I feel I'm watching some uncut rap music video from the 90's. It was cool when it was new and I was 14, but now it feels a bit dated.
OK acted out, nice to see Mahershala Ali here too. I never felt that astronaut thing worked out the way it should, that could have been a way better feature.
6 our of 10 40's.
