Review of Kicks (2016) by Michael T — 18 Sep 2016
Kicks, I figure it's about a pair of shoes but I couldn't understand why there's an astronaut. And after watching the whole, I still couldn't figure it out. I have some guesses like astronaut represent, pure, white, prestige, educated, floating, the other image to far fetch like Air Jordan astronaut and Space Jam. Even the bullet didn't help.
The plot is pretty straight forward. As crazy as it sound to get shoes back, consider the kid lives in poverty and use all his savings for that pair of shoes, it's plausible. The music, I would love to hear more local artists or rap in the movie but instead, mostly instrumental. Probably due to copyright. Finally, if there's anything good about the movie, it's the acting. Everyone feels so natural in their acting. No one really have to pretend. It reminds me of Hmong people in Gran Torino. They simply be themselves.
I just wish the astronaut in the movie can be more clear to understand but other than that, it's good. Oh, the sneaking to house/shooting scene can really get you on your toes! D+ grade.
