Review of Kick-Ass (2010) by Patrick L — 10 Sep 2013
Kick-ass has pretty good music cycling during different menu depictions of the heroes of the film. Having watched all of the special features, I put on the film which has Kick-ass narrating the story and sometimes referring to other heroes.
The film has some coarse language, sexuality and nudity which is crude but the film is far more entertaining than other films like Super and Movie 43. A shocking moment is when Kick-ass is being attacked and he is helped by younger hero Hit Girl who uses blades to attack her opponents, a silly kid's tune is playing during her attacks, she being quite vicious considering she is a young girl.
A young man decides to be a hero, essentially a Daredevil type with billy clubs. He gets beaten initially but improves at his fighting technique. He crosses paths with Big Daddy (a cross between Batman and the Punisher) and Hit Girl (Big Daddy's daughter) who is a young girl trained in all sorts of weaponry as well as being very athletic. They catch the attention of the local crime boss (Big Daddy and Hit Girl having stolen drugs from him and having killed many of his men) and he tries to kill them.
A fairly enjoyable "guilty pleasure" with all the violence, sexuality and nudity. 8/10.
