Review of Kick-Ass (2010) by Jordan R — 06 Sep 2014

With the current trend of glossy hollywood superhero flicks, Kickass is a breath of fresh violence! funny, thought provoking, emotional...it deserves praise for not only being risquà (C) enough to offend but also heartwarming enough to entice.

'spoiler...' Standout scene is definitely the death of big daddy, however, every scene is directed and performed to bloody, hilarious perfection.

Aaron Johnston, Mark Strong and Christopher Mintz-Plasse all give solid performances but all are overshadowed by the incredible Chloe Grace-Moretz's 'Hit girl' who steals each scene she is in by showing that even the deadliest poisen can be as sweet as sugar. Only an 'on fire' (sorry) Nic Cage outshines as her father and mentor while hamming it up in a role he clearly relishes.

While Kickass doesnt reach the thrill of the avengers or the scope of the dark knight it does offer a freshness and honesty rarely seen in Hollywood and for that reason I would recommend it to anyone...who is not easily offended!
