Review of Khoya Khoya Chand (2007) by Marisa R — 18 Oct 2008
I rented it despite some red flags; but my hunger for luscious Indian cinematography was stronger. Yes, it delivered gorgeous images, and exquisite production, and the music was excellent. However, I am still perplexed at the multiple feelings and inconsistent emotions the journey entailed.
Like while singing the song Khoya Khoya... what was the director thinking? she is jumping from the sadness of remembering her childhood rape,to the rush of happiness she feels about breaking windows with children? what? The characters didn't make much sense to me, and I have seen Shiney glowing in other great movies, so it wasn't the cast as most of them are proven talent.
I guess too many emotional ups and downs, laugh and sorrow, romance and hatred at the same time. And sadly, Soha can't dance. Same cast, same production with a different story would have been better.
