Review of Guru (2007) by Marisa R — 03 Dec 2009
I have had this in my queue for a long time, but hadn't prioritized it because I didn't like the chemistry with this real-life couple based on Umrao Jaan. As much as I loved Umrao's lusciousness and obstentosity, I didn't appreciate Abhishek, he was just terrible and we all know it.
However we got a new tv, and wanted to try a visually-strong Indian film in our big HDTV, so I picked Guru. The movie made justice to the tv and viceversa, colors, photography and images are intensely rich, just like I like them :).
The story though is a bit too heroic, with a hint of populism and patriotism, which is always welcomed. The music is just outstanding! I already had Barso Re and Tere Bina, but seeing them performed added a whole new dimension to them; for sure the music is a treasure.
I also liked this Madhavan dude, muy guapo! Now, I would have appreciated a way better choreography, the songs and the production deserved more in this aspect; it was a waste to see those gorgeous songs being danced with such lameness, this Abhishek dude is so tall and clumpsy!and Aishwarya could have done so much better! I really felt the dances sucked.
But overall, I really enjoyed the Bolly-journey, I laughed, cried, danced and felt like kissing Madhavan ;).
