Review of Kes (1970) by Maryelle D — 07 May 2008
Atrociously realistic movie. The more the movie progresses, the sadder you become even if you try to laugh at the football scene, the family dispute... The sadness of it all slowly takes over you until the predictably, still utterly, depressing ending.
Sweet and sour sadness that you cannot blame on Loach because it seems the only way to film the boy's life realistically. Superb socialist-ic, realistic, films, one of the toughest Ken Loach movies I have seen.
