Review of Kes (1970) by Michael O — 25 Aug 2008
France has The 400 Blows. Ireland has Kes. I'm a bit jealous, our childhood poem is still on the pages of Salinger's Catcher in the Rye. Ken Loach is a bloody genius, he sees it like it is and is such a fine director that the film feels as real as our own experiences.
He's the film poet of the working class. This is one of the finest films about being a kid.
