Review of Kes (1970) by Mattias E — 03 Mar 2009
The social cinema of Ken Loach was still in it's infancy here, but there are some very real moments in Kes, like the caning sequence for example. Like Herzog, Loach understood early on the value of working with non-professionals, and there is indeed something uniquely authentic about the way these kids act.
