Review of Kes (1970) by Nigel P — 07 Oct 2010
Brilliant, gritty and lifelike depiction of the seeming futility of life in the north of England at the end of the 60s. If you weren't there, perhaps the film won't resonate with you, but there are surely similarities with the 21st century urban struggle experienced by many. It can be easy to find an escape from the drudgery of everyday life and that escape can equally be taken away too easily.
Superbly portrayed by a relatively unknown cast with authentic dialogue and accent. 9/10.
