Review of Kelly's Heroes (1970) by Mick W — 30 Jun 2012
Kelly's Heroes excels as one of the greatest military comedies ever made. Performances from the likes of Telly Savalas, Clint Eastwood and Donald Sutherland bring great depth to deliberately cliched characters.
The 70s overtone to the film, both in the music and the thinly veiled reference to the conflict in Vietnam adds to, rather than detracts from, the movie if the viewer is prepared to receive it as a slightly dark, yet lighthearted comedy rather than a bone-fide and true-to-life representation of the liberation of France in 1944.
