Review of Keeping the Faith (2000) by Arslan B — 13 Feb 2010
This time Edward Norton is not only in front of, but also behind the camera. This movie is a funny and a smart romantic comedy. I must say this movie is a Divine comedy.
Keeping The Faith is full of religious humor and sharp-witted dialogues that make the movie worth a watch. The romance is syrupy sweet and the chemistry is so great that you actually believe in the characters and think that they have been friends all their lives. Edward Norton produced, directed and starred in this gem and he shows himself to be adept at spinning a magical yarn with very few flaws. This was Norton's first directorial effort and it bodes well for his future on the other side of the lens. His work with the actors was marvelous, and his pacing of the film was excellent. The film flowed very pleasantly from scene to scene and kept me amused and immersed.
I wasn't looking for any technical brilliance in the movie. I just watched it for Edward Norton, who I think is the best actor of his generation and never got his due. But when the movie ended, I became an Edward Norton FANATIC. That means a much stronger fan than ever before. He proved his excellence in acting as well as in direction. Way to go Mr. Edward Norton. Love YA.
