Review of Keeping the Faith (2000) by Robb J — 20 Jul 2010
I watched this movie today and I was looking forward to watching it as I am a huge Ben Stiller & Edward Norton fan. At the same time, I didn't know what to expect as Edward Norton directed this film and I am used to him in serious roles and excellent drama/thriller acting, and this film...well, it's a Romantic Comedy.
Jake Schram (Stiller) and Brian Finn (Norton) are best friends from a young age. They are also both best friends with the same girl, Anna Riley (Jenna Elfman), but after a few years Anna moves to Los Angeles, Jake and Brian don't hear off her until they are all much older. Jake and Brian both become interested in their religion and Jake becomes a rabbi and Brian becomes a catholic priest.
Years later Anna (Elfman) comes back to New York on business and meets up with her two old friends. She plans to stay for a short time, but soon finds a reason to stay in New York a little longer.
The storyline of this film is an excellent one, it has some really great comic moments and we all know Edward Norton is a great actor but I was really surprised at his delivery in this film and he was actually very funny. The main plot is the love triangle between the friends, a triangle that makes them all think about their lives and their religion.
This film is a feel good film ... It will make you laugh, from the excellent delivery from Stiller, Norton and Elfman, and the way it's written and directed, to the actual plot of the film.
I would recommend this film to you if you like to watch comedy movies, But also if you enjoy a movie with an excellent story behind it.
