Review of Keeping the Faith (2000) by Jenna S — 02 Apr 2012
As a rule, I don't like most romantic comedies due to the complexity of the nature of love. However, being a fan of Edward Norton, I was interested to see what he did with it, and I wasn't disappointed.
He directs this with intelligence, maturity, and some major laughs. There are some moments of crap situational comedy and a few too many jokes you see coming, but it's miles ahead of most of the genre.
At just over two hours, you can't help but think some of it could be cut, and the last third is probably the weakest part, but despite descending into hackneyed plot devices, it never condescends or insults the viewer's intelligence.
I attribute that to the excellent character development and the attention to detail.
