Review of Keeping Mum (2005) by Bob M — 30 Jan 2010
Imagine if Mary Poppins had a very, very bad sister. And that sister was also compelled to help a family out of all its troubles, using tactics entirely different than her Supercalifragilisticexpialidotious sister.
And those tactics included the use of axes, gardening shovels and a clothes iron. Well Maggie Smith, one of my favorite British actresses (favorite - The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie) manages to delight in exactly that role in this British black comedy.
Rowan Atkinson adds his skills to the cast, albeit in a much more structured role. Add in Patrick Swayze of all people, and you get an enjoyable comedy that delighted me more with its humorous situations than going for belly laughs.
It might not be for everybody, but I enjoy British humor and found this movie to be a delight........
