Review of Keane (2004) by Casey M — 02 Jul 2007
A remarkable story of a damaged man and his path to redemption. After his seven year old daughter is abducted while she is in his care, William Keane's life falls apart. He spends days frantically searching for a sign of her, and his nights abusing alcohol and drugs to chase away his demons.
Damian Lewis gives a spectacular performance in the title role, and whenever the film focuses exclusively on him, it is incredible. However, the movie loses focus with the introduction of a struggling mother and her seven-year-old daughter, and a clumsy psychological parable. Compelling, if uncomfortable, viewing.
