Review of Keane (2004) by Damian A — 09 Aug 2007
Ok,so I like Damian Lewis as an actor and I did meet him once and he seemed like a cool guy,so I had my eye on this for a while.
This film was on at the LFF a few years ago and a mate of mine(Mark Frost) told me it looked interesting.
So I ended up buying it from Beijing of all places and I watched it just now.
Started off very claustrophobic and felt like it could have been pure arthouse ononism,but...as it went on you were just drawn deeper and deeper into this messed up guy's world and his head.
DL is superb as is the rest of the strong cast, Amy Ryan gives good struggling mother and Abigail Breslin shows the talent that predated her Little Miss Sunshine performance.
Moving, beautiful, haunting and tragic, Keane is not an easy film to watch at times but at about an hour and a half it is time well spent in the capable hands of Lodge Kerrigan and his incredibly talented cast.
X.
