Review of Katy Perry: Part of Me (2012) by Amar Z — 23 Jul 2012
This documentary stays on her career and only touches on tangents like family or marriage as it walks through her career. I was more interested in the career musician than a tell-all dive in. So not much in personal detail in the film, which I liked. For most of the film, I was in a serious mindset. But I got a kick out seeing Katy Perry in film; specific scenes that made me laugh from the situational humor shown.
I liked the footage of her interaction with fans, who are generally very young. It's easy to get a sense of how hard her job is; she must be present minded and able to interact and communicate with young adults and adolescents as a twenty something female musician and performer.
One question I came away with though is if Katheryn Hudson, now Katy Perry, is having fun. It was not apparent. Is it work? Or is it fun. Or is it a little of both? I also wonder to myself how often she experiencing moments that lead to crying; there were many moments of displayed tears in the film. More elucidation on these points would have made the film perfect for me.
I loved the footage of her performances at younger ages. To me, the home videos helped most to document and contrast the transition she is enduring. â??
