Review of Kaminey (2009) by Karun K — 18 Aug 2009
Bold, dark and unpredictable...which is what works in its favour. Vishal Bharadwaj has done a great job combining violence and dark humour ( dialogues have been penned by vishal himself! )in a manner seldom seen in the usual bollywood films. The best part is that there's no spoonfeeding...this is not a movie for those who like to leave their brains at home and come for movies and expect to be entertained.Shahid Kapoor is brilliant throughout...this one will certainly catapult him to superstardom.
The story is not something we've not seen before...Two brothers Charlie and guddu, different as chalk and cheese. Charlie gets mixed up in a get-rich-quick scheme, while Guddu realizes that the love of his life, Sweety (Priyanka), has unwittingly put a price on his head. The brothers are sucked into a world of drugs, guns and money. Their lives collide head on with the lives of gangsters, rebel soldiers, rogue politicians and crooked cops. Its the manner in which it has been executed that stands out. The effort is truly clapworthy and vishal proves it once again that he's a master storyteller. The combo of vishal bharadwaj+shahid kapoor+ Dhan te nan ( What a track!! ) surely works and works well.
One of the rare movies that manages to live upto the hype, Kaminey is a must watch.
