Review of Kaminey (2009) by Rohitashwa S — 20 Aug 2009
While it will slowly flit into public consciousness after all the hoopla surrounding it has disperesed that there is actually a lack of strong premise in this film, it still is a rivetting re-exploration of all that's tried and tested in the hindi celluloid.
What sets apart this film is that is edgy, bursting with raw energy, unafraid. There is a dizzy technical falvour in every frame, a pulsating beat behing every punch that is delivered, a cunning tarantino-esque play with pop allusions.
It is in these respects that the film is different. But all 'Kaminey' does at the end of the day is lay down a promising ladder for hindi cinema, but it never fully uses that ladder itself. Now one hopes that another films are made with a foot on that ladder, that which is raw and bustling with creative energy.
