Review of Kalifornia (1993) by Magill F — 15 Jan 2010
Call it a poor man's "Natural Born Killers". "Kalifornia" has a solid premise, and its tight script and good cast raise it just above the level of your average b-grade thriller.
Although David Duchovny is his usual monotonous self and Juliette Lewis is playing a variation of her typical dumb Southern girl character, Brad Pitt totally makes up for their slightly weak performances with a terrific turn as the psychopathic Early Grace.
In fact, I'd go so far as to say it's one of Pitt's best performances, as I totally bought his crazed, drawling redneck character who manages to be truly menacing in many scenes. The ending felt a bit abrupt to me, but it was still a fun movie, and Pitt's performance alone makes it well worth a watch.
