Review of Kagemusha (1980) by P. P — 16 Mar 2011
I rented the Criterion version of this recently. in the mood for Kurosawa's blend of poetry and introspection puncuated by exciting action sequences. While I am not as fond of this as I am of Seven Samurai it was remarkable to watch Kurosawa work with colour film.
Costuming is exquisite. Kurosawa storyboarded his films with beautiful paintings and drawings and it shows in the end result. Mesmerizing. Great features where George Lucas and Francis Coppola speak of Kurosawa's influence on their own works (they produced Kagemusha and helped the film gain U.
S. distribution).
