Review of Kagemusha (1980) by Jayakrishnan R — 19 Oct 2015
Stunning, visual feast about warlords trying to consolidate power in 1573 Japan. The protagonist is the warlords double who at first has the audacity to accuse the warlord of being a criminal, but by the end of the film is willing to die for all that he represents.
Over the course of 3 hours Kurosawa shows us how this transformation takes place. It's the last film with Takashi Shimura, who was in 21 Kurosawa films.
