Review of K-PAX (2001) by Ray C — 08 Oct 2013
If there is anything that I resent about medical dramas it's their cloying treatment of the mentally disabled. Feel-good movies of the kind tend to turn these decent folk into figures of fun and corny platitudes.
This film does no different in its treatment of these people. Now that I've said my piece about the supporting players in this movie, I'll direct my attention to Kevin Spacey. He is the reason to see K-PAX.
Spacey gives an entertaining performance as the charismatic patient claiming to be from outer space. The stand-out moment for me was watching the way he eats a banana with the skin still on. That's dedication to your craft.
Jeff Bridges also stars but he's bland and forgettable here. He gives a serviceable performance as the warm-hearted doctor on staff at the hospital.
